Special course and Qualification that can be acquired

Dietician License

Students receive the “Dietician License” from the prefecture at the time of graduation upon completion of specified classes. The law stipulates that such facilities as schools, hospitals, and welfare facilities where meals are served must have licensed dieticians.

Dieticians take charge in different phases of serving meals, including planning a menu, ordering ingredients, cooking, and doing clerical work. On the other hand, they give nutritional guidance to patients for treatment and disease prevention at hospitals. They also give dietary education to school children and community people.

In facilities where meals are provided, licensed cooks and cooking assistants prepare meals along with a licensed dietician. Licensed cooks prepare meals from a menu that the dietician makes. Assistant cooks engage in the preparation of meals under the supervision of a licensed cook and a licensed dietician.

Eligibility for taking the “registered dietician state examination” can be obtained after 3 years of experience as a dietician.

Workplaces for Dieticians

These include hospitals, schools, nursing care facilities, child-care facilities, mental/physical disability facilities, administrative offices, research institutes, penal/correctional facilities, company cafeterias, local activity groups, and self-defense force groups.

Eligibility for Dietary Advisor Examination

Dual licenses of dietician and dietary advisor give qualification for giving advice on the economic and health aspects of life, as well as to examine nutrition balance. An examination is given on food marketing and consumer issues as well as on dietetics-related subjects taken at our school. Courses on consumer issues are scheduled to be offered by NAU instructors.

Social Work Manager Qualification

This qualification is needed for working as a case worker in a welfare office. The qualification proves completion of basic social welfare education, and can be a great asset in obtaining employment.

Eligibility to Transfer to a Four Year College

Upon completion of the two year course at our school, students are eligible to transfer into a 3rd year registered dietician course at a 4 year college. We give individual guidance to candidates wishing to do this. Some of our students have successfully passed transfer examinations to Koriyama Women’s University and Seitoku University in recent years.

Dietician Examination Course Approved by the National Dietician Education Association

This nationwide examination is given annually in December to improve the quality of dieticians and to standardize dieticians’ competence levels. Examinees are issued certificates A, B, or C depending on their achievement level. This examination provides a good opportunity to check one’s competency level for future study. Instructions given at our school prepare students for this examination as well.

Registered Dietician State Examination Course

An average of 5 or 6 students per year, and well over 100 of our graduates have passed the registered dietician state examination. A total of 10 graduates were successful in 2006. Many of our graduates study for this exam while working. This can be very exhausting.

For such graduates, we offer post-graduate support in registered dietician license acquisition. The average success rate is said to be as low as 8% among junior college dietician course graduates, so we take responsibility in this area seriously. Undergraduate students may take this course free of charge.

Civil Servant Examination Course

One year of effective and practical instructions is given to students who desire to become a civil servant in the future. Focus is placed on the general education subjects.

Computer Course

Computer use is increasingly prevalent in today’s modern information technology society. This course is composed of ever advancing programs, giving students valuable skills for work in the real world.

Visiting Care Giver (2nd Grade) Course

Dietician license is one of the basic qualifications needed to be a Care Manager. The Visiting Care Giver Course is offered to those students who desire to pursue the welfare field in the future.
